May 16, 2006

So now not only is mine on its second repair vacation to Houston and back for the whining, buzzing and overheating, but while it is gone they upgrade the base model to a 2.0 GHz processor. Real nice Apple, Real Nice!

All I can say is that my feelings are hurt. I thought we were friends!

Repair Status: Product shipped to Apple Store (16-May-2006) – Should be in tomorrow!

Macbook Pro – Service Trip #2

May 10, 2006

Well I just couldn't wait any longer and I took my Macbook Pro back in to the Charlotte South Park store today to have them fix the screen buzz, whine and heat issues. The genius bar guy immediately acknowledged the buzzing and said it was probably the inverter. He couldn't understand why they would have replaced the logic board last time. He took it into the back (where another genious told me it was even louder on my last visit) to supposedly listen for the whine or perhaps take a smoke break… I don't know. We said he never heard the whine but I told him to write it up anyway as well as the heat issue and he did. It was a very good experience to have them at least accept my word on the noises and not question me like I hear strange things in my head. I asked them to please make it a snappy round trip because I really can't be without it for long. So here goes on MBP roundtrip number 2.

iWhine LogoOhhh and I decided to remove my iWhine logo that I created for Daniel at The Red Sweater Blog from my wallpaper just to not piss them off. They won't be so lucky next time. If you are so inclined, click on the image to get a higher res image to place on your site as well.

Once you go Mac…You’ll want your email back!

May 7, 2006

So I have been reading all kinds of tips and lengthy processes for moving my lifetime of email from Windows Outlook to either Apple Mail or Entourage (I want to try both with all my email for a few weeks to see which works best for me). Then today, while flipping through one of the dozens of Switching from Windows to OSX books at the local Borders, I stumble upon a note about this little gem. O2M or Outlook to Mac converts email, contacts and calendar entries from Outlook to Mac (both Apple Mail and Entourage as well as Apple's Address Book and iCal). Best of all, it's only $10. WOW! I'll post an update when I give it a try, but until then if anyone has used it, please let me know.

UPDATE: I spoke with an Apple sales rep today and he said that this program is actually included when you buy Apple ProCare to have them switch you from a PC to a Mac.  He said they go online, download and pay the $10 for this program for you and install it.  So I guess it must work pretty well then.
